He is not insulting atheists' resolve, the contrary is the case: he actually describes conversion to belief as a result of weakness.
He sets up the situation quite well: to be an atheist, to be an open minded man without any need of crutch, you need a strong personality that doesn't break up under any burden life brings.

I don't watch TV, I certainly don't think the government is particuarly helpful. Don't pretend you know anything about me. I don't deny that a god/gods or something else is possible, yet to openly believe and follow something you cannot see without evidence or reason is dangerous.

I didn't try to debate what you said actually, I was responding to Jesusfreak777, but regardless you raised a good point, following your own opinion is dangerous. However is it not better to keep an open mind, and listen to others opinions in order to improve and refine your morale code, rather then hold to a rigid unchanging system? Whether that be a system of religion, nationalism or otherwise?.
Also keeping an open mind does not meen embracing every bull shit notion you come accross.
